Frequently asked questions.

From a team point of view:

Does it cost more to play for a team in a club vs. an independent team?  Not really. Our extra activities and scholarships come from our tournament monies. An independent team could wear a t-shirt instead of a basketball uniform, and go without warm-ups or bags, but these are items that build team identity and unity. Most of our clothing money also comes from our fundraising.

We have a sponsor for our team, would that somehow be different if we joined a club?  It would be the same. Several times we have had sponsors for a certain team within the club.

We want to practice in our own town, do we have to go to the Club practice locations? You can practice where ever you want to. We will be having a skill night on Thursdays from April to mid July. These clinics are intended for all of our teams. The mix of age groups can often inspire the younger players.

What are the scholarships that are offered?  For teams 14U, 15U and 16U. We have need based help, decided by application review by our scholarship committee. We also have athletic scholarships based on WNY Honors. These awards varied from $150 (Honorable Mention) to $400 (First team) in 2005. These funds are from our tournament. Junior year is the last year for these awards. No family is paying another player's  fees.

Will the Club accept any team that wants to join?  No. Only teams that are committed to basketball excellence and good sportsmanship are welcome. Older teams must be basketball first among sports and older teams should compete in at least 1 major season ending tournament.
